It is significant that it is not kosher to form a fixed image of one’s fellow human beings. The Hebrew word for image is Tzelem, which has the same numerical value as Amalek. Samael, the angel of death and leader of evil powers, also has the same numerical value as Amalek. This value corresponds to the number 240. Amalek is a symbol of evil and represents the pursuit of ruin. The people of Israel are therefore called upon to resist his wickedness. Now Purim is approaching, a day to commemorate and celebrate the victory over Haman. If we dedicate ourselves to the service of Hashem throughout our lives, then we are servants who keep all 613 commandments and take them seriously—in our daily lives. We must never grow weary in our striving to fulfill a mitzvah. „Growing weary“ is the Hebrew word Kiyor, which has the same numerical value as „servant“ and „mitzvah.“ It is up to each of us to decide whom we wish to serve.
